From the
field of medicine to education, Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is
an expectation of both consumers and professionals. EBP is a
framework for clinical decision making derived from the field of
medicine. The goal of EBP is the integration of: (a) educational
expertise, (b) best current evidence, and (c) student values to
provide high-quality services reflecting the interests, values,
needs,
and choices of the students served.

|
Because EBP is student and family centered, the
educator's task is to interpret best current evidence from
systematic research in relation to an individual student,
including that student's preferences, environment, culture, and
values regarding health, well-being, education, etc. Ultimately,
the goal of EBP is providing optimal educational service to that
student on an individual basis. Because EBP is a continuing
process, it is a dynamic integration of ever-evolving
educational expertise and external evidence in day-to-day
practice.
